Tempature was 19f today and felt like 8f so is 12.40 volts good for the battery being cold?
I tested my battery today when it was super cold with the car turned off it was putting out 12.40volts at 19f felt like 9f is that good? The battery that's in my car now has 590cca say if i were to get higher cold cranking amp battery would the test read higher volts then the one i have now?
no the volts would stay the same. a car battery has 6 sections. each one produces 2.1 volts. thats y all together a good battery in normal conditions will be at 12.6 volts. Cold Cranking Amps is a rating used in the battery industry to define a battery's ability to start an engine in cold temperatures. The rating is the number of amps a new, fully charged battery can deliver at 0° Farenheit for 30 seconds, while maintaining a voltage of at least 7.2 volts, for a 12 volt battery. The higher the CCA rating, the greater the starting power of the battery.
and at that temperature that is pretty good. checking the battery while the vehicle is running will do nothing. that will only check ur alternator output.
