42b Battery
Camera battery question?
Hi! I have an Olympus cam which uses a lithium ion 42B proprietary battery. Anyway, since I don't like the idea of having just one battery pack, especially for long trips, I saved up for another one. Unfortunately, the nearest convenience store only sold a generic one. It's made by this company called SDV. The dealer gave me their website: http://www.swisscophoto.com.sg/battery.htm
Anyway, just would like to know if there are any negative effects of putting non-Olympus batteries in an Olympus cam? I mean I'll only use this as backup (i.e. when my primary runs out of juice and at least my camera stays active while it's being charged) so I already know that it won't be as powerful as an original battery.
Other disadvantages?

The proprietary Li-ion batteries made for the major brand camera companies have current controllers and over charging protection circuits in them. I know of no generic that does. IF the generic were to damage your camera, the camera will most likely not be covered under your Olympus warranty.
Spend the few extra dollars and buy the real deal.
