How to emulate a battery with an AC adapter?
I would like to remove the cells from a 14.4v 4100mAh NiMH battery and wire it directly to mains via an AC adapter.
What voltage and amperage will I need from the AC adapter? Do I need to place any electronics between the adapter output and the device?

The obvious answer is that you need an AC adapter that puts out 14.4 V DC at 4.1 Amps.
However, you don't say what it is used for. Often, electronics or electrical machines require a much higher startup current. Batteries provide that, while an AC adapter won't -- unless you get one large enough to handle the startup current. Things with motors (fans, disk drives) or large displays typically require large startup currents for a short amount of time.
So, you might need an adapter that could provide 8 Amps or more for a short period, instead of 4.1 Amps continuously...
