How to operate a Canon EOS Rebel 2000?
My sister left me her EOS Rebel 2000 which I have no idea how to use since it requires real film in comparison of my basic knowledge only on operating digital cameras. It was something that she gave me a few years back since she had a new digital SLR. So basically, this camera has not been in use for at most 2 years... Basically what I want to know is that if there is anything wrong or some error I should expect since I have not touched it in two years. Also, what should I do? How do I get the batteries and film for it? I have no prior knowledge at all in operating a manual (non-digital!) camera that I dont even know where to start. HELP!
The Rebel 2000 is a very easy camera to use- I have 2 of them. First of all it takes CR2 batteries. These batteries are available just about everywhere that sells batteries- from Walgreens to any photo store. You will need 2 of them. I would probably replace the batteries just because the camera sat for 2 years. You can find the battery comparment on the underside of the camera. It has a hinged door and their will be a diagram engraved onto the inside of that door on which way they go in.
Next turn the camera on. Move the dial on the right handside of the camera from the Red L to the green window- that both turns the camera on and puts you in full auto mode. Now you are ready for the film. Open the back of the camera with the switch on the side of the camera with the dial that you turned in on with. Place a roll of film (400 speed would probably be best) upside down on the left hand side. Pull gently on the actuall film til it reaches the cylinder on the other side then carefully close the camera. You will hear a winding sound as the camera pulls the film out to load it. Then you are ready to go.
Check that the lens is in autofocus AF and not manual MF with the switch on the left hand side. I suggest that you take a few rolls just in the auto (green window) mode to get the hang of things.
Their are similar features to most digital cameras in that the dial on the Rebel 2000 also has different modes to shoot in (shown on the dial). Anything above and counter clockwise to the Red L are manual modes, Below and clockwise are auto modes like portrait, landscape, close-up, action, and nighttime portrait.
When you are done shooting a roll, the camera will automatically rewind the film. When it is done making noise- you can open the back of the camera. Turning the dial back to the Red L will shut the camera off.
Hope that helps.
