Battery Grip D300s
Should I or should I not purchase a grip?
I am looking into purchasing a battery grip for my camera. However, it would be quite a punch for my wallet...one I do not know if I need. I have a D300s...amazing camera ergonomic-wise. I find it much more comfortable shooting in portrait orientation than landscape orientation...Which results in my shooting everything in portrait orientation...not just portraits. I am interested in your experiences with battery grips...and what you yourselves find comfortable. My, as some people call it, "twisting arms around" results in a much more comfortable shooting position. However, if the grip will ease my use of shooting "the traditional way," that would be welcome. The DSLR itself is just too tiny to comfortably hold...especially when you're using a tiny lens such as any of the 50mm lenses. Oh boy, landscape orientation becomes outright impossible then. Can't hold the lens...and holding the body isn't at all comfortable.
I have a D300 and have considered getting the battery pack/grip to add a bit of speed in continuous mode for shooting race cars and also to add a bit of stability as far as giving me more to hold onto. The thing can rest on your shoulder with the grip added.
If you shoot a lot in portrait mode, you should love the grip as it adds a shutter release and command dials to be used in that position.
If you think the D300's small, I'd hate to see you with a D40!
