Battery Slt A33
Are there any less expensive batteries that will work well in the Sony SLT a33?
We have 12 of these cameras for our photography classes at the college where I teach, but I'm finding that the students are terrible about running down the batteries and leaving the camera so that the next class can't shoot without waiting four hours to charge the batteries. I want to get at least one spare for each camera so this doesn't happen. I noticed that the older Nikons we also use have third party batteries in them and they seem to do ok.
Our department doesn't have much budget left which is why I don't want to buy the Sony batteries.
None of the Nikons had any accessories but the kit lenses and off brand batteries and we did have a ton of Minolta stuff (lenses and flashes) from the film cameras so no it wasn't a waste of money. I gave you thumbs up anyway for answering the question.

Not unless you want to risk voiding your warranty or having the off brand batteries overheat or catch fire.
You really need to write a more stringent policy when it comes to the students use of the loaner cameras. Fining them for returning uncharged batteries would be a good start
Photography takes a lot of discipline and this would be a good place to start
NOTE: Are you saying that you had Nikon dSLR's with lenses and other accessories and then purchased Sony cameras this time around?
If I tried such a thing, my accountant would blow his cork! What a waste of money! Too late now, but someone needs to figure out which system you are going to use and then stick with it for the next few decades.
